Learning outcomes

The bachelor's degree in neuroscience offers comprehensive training in the foundations of modern neuroscience from the cellular to systems level, as well as basic and applied knowledge in general science, psychology and biology that will allow you to understand and critically evaluate knowledge in the field of neuroscience.

A major aim of the neuroscience major is to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills that will prepare you to successfully pursue graduate studies in a variety of basic and applied disciplines with a neuroscience focus, from cognitive and biological sciences to biotechnology and medicine.

The interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in neuroscience is offered jointly through the Department of Psychology and Department of Biology.

Research in neuroscience

The Institute of Neuroscience is a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary group of researchers seeking to tackle big questions in neuroscience while preparing students for a career in this exciting field. Your professors have expertise in molecular genetics, behavioral analysis, developmental biology, electrophysiology, optogenetics, human psychophysics, virtual reality, and functional MRI and EEG.

Most of our faculty labs offer research opportunities for undergraduate students, including the opportunity to do research for course credit. You are encouraged to explore faculty research labs and contact your professors to see how you can get involved.
