The Instructional Design Team facilitates a growing number of faculty development programs including the Teaching with Technology Certificate and Online Instructor Certificate. Our programs are geared towards faculty who want to reflect on their current teaching practice, expand their knowledge of innovative trends and research, exchanges ideas with colleagues and experiment in an intentional way with technology-enhanced teaching strategies.
Teaching with Technology Certificate Program
This twelve-week program supports the effective and efficient use of technology in teaching and learning via regular meetings of a faculty learning community. The program creates space for reflection on current teaching practice, pedagogical research, and why and how to integrate new technology in teaching.
Technologies discussed include but are not limited to: WebCampus tools, student response systems (“clickers”), presentation, video and multimedia tools. The program is delivered in a hybrid format, with preparation work online combined with face-to-face meetings. Participants should plan to spend about three hours a week on the course. The program culminates in a showcase event at which participants present on teaching innovations completed during the semester.
Online Instructor Certificate Program: Online Course Delivery
This six-week hybrid course provides an introduction to teaching online. The course is designed for faculty who are relatively new to online instruction and would like to learn more about the delivery of an online course (as distinct from the course design phase covered in Part II*).
A core objective of this course is to familiarize faculty with the student experience in an online course. As such, participants will be asked to review materials and complete quizzes, discussions and assignments online via WebCampus. Additionally, participants will be required to attend face-to-face orientation and wrap-up sessions and participate in two synchronous online activities. Participants should plan to spend about three hours a week on course materials and activities. Participants will complete the course with a solid toolkit of strategies and practices to use when teaching online.
*Part II of the course will be announced soon
