The University maintains a full-time staff of police officers, uniformed crime investigators and administrative personnel. University Police are armed, uniformed and sworn police officers who are certified under the laws of the State of Nevada. They perform the same law enforcement activities as those of municipal, county, and state law enforcement agencies. They enforce all federal, state, local laws and ordinances within the jurisdiction of the University of Nevada, Reno.

University Police Department-Northern Command maintains interlocal agreements with the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, and the State of Nevada Highway Patrol. This allows University Police officers to exercise their powers of authority at all university approved fraternities, sororities, and adjacent properties. Officers can also respond to requests for mutual aid and backup for other agencies.
