It's been another busy semester for students and faculty at the Reynolds School of Journalism. From trips to Sundance Film Festival, Costa Rica and now Paris for the French Open, to student awards and Nobel Peace Prize-winning speakers, this semester has been full of accomplishments. Six students took home National Hearst Awards and our PR and Advertising competition teams continued to make a name for themselves in the Bateman and IMC competitions. Take a look back at the spring semester in review video.
Hello, Dean Yun here with the Reynolds School Spring 2025 Semester in Review.
It’s been a busy semester, and our students have been all over the globe. From Sundance, to Costa Rica, and soon to Paris for the French Open, it’s been incredible to see our students grow and experience new places this semester.
Let’s take a look back…
A group of students kicked off the semester by traveling to Sundance Film Festival, where they attended screenings, networked and got a first-hand look at the film distribution process.
We hosted the inaugural Lerude First Amendment Lecturer Forum, hearing from constitutional law professor and distinguished lecturer Justin Marceau.
A group of our students spent spring break in Costa Rica at La Selva Research Station, interviewing and creating multimedia stories for the Hitchcock Project and Noticiero Movil.
We also introduced a new Broadcast Meteorology class, with instructor and local legend, Mike Alger.
We were honored to welcome Nobel Laureate, journalist and activist Maria Ressa to campus to be honored at the 60th annual Scripps Lecture. Ms. Ressa gave an insightful talk and we recognized our four Scripps Scholars, James, Samuel, Nick and Ariel.
We recognized the achievements and hard work of our outstanding students and faculty, including over $185,000 of scholarships awarded to our students at the Savitt Awards Banquet.
Six students brought home National Hearst Awards this year for their exceptional reporting in the multimedia, writing and audio categories.
Our Bateman team executed another successful campaign for this year’s client, EveryLibrary, advocating for public libraries locally.
Our IMC team placed second for their campaign for AT&T, and we had the pleasure of hosting the district competition here in Reno.
Students and faculty came together for RSJ Day at the Nevada State Legislature, where we met with lawmakers and reporters from The Nevada Independent and KUNR.
We finished the year off with graduating another class of bright and passionate journalists and media professionals. We can’t wait to see what they all accomplish next.
This semester, we also honored beloved faculty member, Professor Myrton Running Wolf, who passed away in January. Dr. Running Wolf made a huge impact on our school, students and faculty and his loss is felt throughout the RSJ and our entire campus community.
Thank you for following along with us, as we continue to guide the next generation of journalists towards an ethical and productive future. Have a great summer. Next stop, the Reynolds School goes to Paris for the 2025 French Open! Au revoir!
