Summary
Nick Nemsgern is a Teaching Assistant Professor for NevadaTeach at the University. Nick is a University of Nevada, Reno alumni having earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences in 2000, followed with his Master in Education, Educational Leadership degree in 2014. He brings to the program 14 years of secondary classroom experiences and possesses a passion for teaching and learning that is essential in his role as a Master Teacher. In his position, Nick teaches courses, organizes and coordinates field experiences for students, and works to implement and maintain a quality teacher preparation program. He works with elementary, middle and high school educators within the Washoe County School District to place, observe, and assist the next generation of science and math educators.
His achievements as a secondary science classroom teacher and department leader included building a cohesive department that collaborated to create inquiry based instructional units and common assessments. In his role as a Mentor Teacher and Instructional Coach, his achievements included: supporting the needs of Professional Learning Communities and individual teachers through observation and feedback, curriculum building with school administration, and facilitating professional development opportunities with an emphasis in Engineering, including serving as a Teacher Fellow as part of a National Science Foundation grant. Nick's efforts as a science teacher earned him the Sandra Daugherty Outstanding Middle School Science Teacher award in 2010. He has also been a cross country, track, basketball and golf coach for over a total of 13 years in WCSD.
When not working alongside the other Master Teachers, he can be found spending time with his three children (triplets) and wife, or out enjoying some golf.
