Summary
Dr. Adrienne Graham is an assistant professor in the Counselor Education program at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her clinical, teaching, supervision, and research expertise center on trauma-informed counseling, advocacy, counselor development, and support for survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence (IPV), and human trafficking. Dr. Graham has clinical experience working with individuals and groups in private practice and collaborating with local advocacy centers to provide care for survivors. She also has experience serving on task forces for human trafficking and domestic violence, as well as a sexual assault response team in Athens, Georgia, advocating for trauma-informed care across multidisciplinary systems of care.
Dr. Graham specializes in working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, trauma, college students, and career counseling. She is an EMDRIA-trained EMDR counselor and incorporates trauma-focused, multicultural, and social justice-oriented approaches into her teaching, supervision, mentorship, and scholarship. Her research focuses on advocacy and resilience among sexual assault survivors, particularly survivors who hold marginalized identities, as well as trauma-informed supervision and counseling practices. Dr. Graham has contributed to scholarly publications in counseling and counselor education and has delivered more than 40 national, regional, and international presentations. She has secured grant funding to support research aimed at improving services for survivors and those who counsel them. At UNR, she is a core member of the Power-Based Violence Committee and is committed to preparing students to become ethical, culturally responsive, trauma-informed counselors and advocates.
Dr. Graham is an active leader in the counseling profession. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), the Southern and Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision divisions (SACES/WACES), the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC), the American College Counseling Association (ACCA), Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ), and several other ACA divisions. In addition to membership, Dr. Graham serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Addiction & Offender Counseling (JAOC), as secretary of ACCA, as a mentor for CSJ, and as a core member of the CSI Chapter Development Committee. She previously served as a CSI Leadership Fellow, an ACCA Emerging Leader, and the founding president of the University of Georgia’s Gamma Beta Chapter of CSI.
