Summary
Dr. Love is an Assistant Professor of Special Education in the Department of Educator Preparation in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno. The goal of his work is to conduct original research and help translate that research into practice in ways that support all levels of educational systems in creating engaging learning spaces for teachers and students that prepare them for an ever evolving information and data driven world. His work sits at the intersection of special education, learning design, and culturally sustaining pedagogy. He uses design-based, mixed-method, and learning analytics approaches to examine how instructional decisions, technologies and structures either widen or narrow access for students with disabilities.
His research agenda is organized around three interrelated aims: operationalizing Universal Design for Learning as integrated, actionable practices teachers can implement, measure and refine; examining how assistive and instructional technology shapes participation, agency and evidence of learning for students with disabilities; and studying transition where students with disabilities claim adult roles and identities. Together, these strands are unified by a commitment to designing learning environments in which students with disabilities are treated as capable learners and to preparing educators who can build those environments themselves. That commitment extends to his own courses, where he treats his teaching as a site of inquiry through the scholarship of teaching and learning. He works alongside teachers, teacher-educators and community partners, attending to the practices, tools, and preparation pathways that make inclusive instruction sustainable.
