Summary

Emily Roberts is a Lecturer II in Secondary Education at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she prepares future educators through research-based instruction, innovative coursework, and field-based learning. Her work focuses on bridging educational theory with authentic classroom practice, with an emphasis on instructional clarity, formative assessment, literacy, culturally and historically relevant education, and student engagement.

Emily brings more than 15 years of secondary teaching experience in Nevada and California, teaching World History, U.S. History, Geography, Psychology, AP Psychology, and Psychology 101 through the University of Nevada Reno's Collegiate Academy. Before joining the University of Nevada, Reno and PackTeach, she held teaching and leadership roles within the Washoe County School District, including Social Studies Department Leader, Schoolwide Seminar Curriculum Co-Leader, and Social Studies Writing Committee Lead. Emily is passionate about creating learning environments where students feel seen, challenged, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their learning. She believes the best teacher preparation connects research and pedagogy to the authentic experiences of students and teachers in today’s classrooms.

A proud University of Nevada, Reno graduate, Emily earned her B.A. in Secondary Education in 2008 and M.Ed. in Literacy Studies in 2012. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Social Studies History/Adolescence and Young Adulthood and was named Teacher of the Year at Gunderson High School in the San Jose Unified School District in 2016. In 2022, she was honored as the Nevada Social Studies Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute.

When she is not teaching or talking about teaching, Emily loves spending time with her husband and daughter, lifting heavy weights, hanging at the beach, taking early morning walks with her dog, and traveling. She is a self proclaimed foodie, loves early bedtimes, and firmly believes that live music is her love language.
