What will the minor in artificial intelligence teach me?
Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how people analyze information, solve problems and develop new technologies. The minor in artificial intelligence provides students with technical skills and theoretical knowledge to understand and apply AI methods across a range of fields. Through core courses and electives, students develop skills in areas such as statistics, machine learning, data mining, programming and data management.
Housed in the College of Engineering, the interdisciplinary artificial intelligence minor includes courses in computer science and engineering, mathematics and statistics, and information systems. The minor is open to all University students. Completing the minor may require additional prerequisite courses, depending on a student's academic background.
Artificial intelligence is an interdisciplinary field, and faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno are applying AI methods to research across a range of disciplines. In computer science and engineering, faculty use artificial intelligence in areas such as machine learning and robotics. In journalism, AI can support reporting, data analysis and visualization. Researchers in fields such as biology and physics also use AI and computational methods to analyze complex data and better understand the world around us.
