Summary

Jorge A. Cao-Noya, M.S., is a Doctoral Psychology Intern at the University of Nevada, Reno Counseling Services. He is a multilingual and multicultural therapist, who's past experiences have focused on helping clients with trauma and anxiety, and to disseminate different interventions to the Latine community.

He was born and raised in Spain, where he earned his B.A. in Psychology. He then moved to Cardiff, United Kingdom, to get hands-on experience, where he developed a passion for research in the field of PTSD and its impact in underserved populations. He later moved to Milwaukee, WI, where he earned his M.A. in General Psychology, before joining UNR as an international student in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program.

Jorge's research focuses on the intersection between trauma, bilingualism, and culture. Particularly, he designed a new PTSD treatment protocol that capitalizes on the different emotional effects that using each language carries on bilinguals, and how it can be beneficial for therapy. He has also worked in the adaptation of different treatments to make them more accessible for the Latine community, and on the psychological consequences of racial discrimination.

In therapy, Jorge uses a collaborative approach that recognizes the effect that cultural and identity factors can play in all aspects of treatment. He aims to create a safe space where students feel understood, respected and supported, and adapts treatment protocols accordingly. Outside of work, Jorge enjoys playing tennis, snowboarding, and playing video games.
