In addition to broadening your life experiences and your view of the world, studying a foreign language improves your communication skills and cognitive and critical thinking abilities. In addition, language study on your transcripts will give you an advantage in any career choice. Foreign language study offers a wider understanding of the cultures of countries trading with the United States. Multinational corporations seek employees with multilingual communicative abilities to compete in a global market. An employer will see the employee with various language abilities as a bridge to new clients.

The Spanish program at the University of Nevada, Reno includes courses in Peninsular, Hispanic-American, and U.S. Latino culture and literature.

Degrees in Spanish

• Minor in Spanish Translation: The minor in Spanish Translation addresses the needs of students interested in Spanish translation and wishing to acquire a higher degree of competence in the field.
• Minor in Spanish: Spanish provides students with oral and compositional competency in Spanish.
• Bachelor of Arts in Spanish: Spanish provides students with oral and compositional competency in Spanish.
• Master of Arts in Spanish: The mission of the graduate program is to educate students in Spanish language, culture, and literature at the highest possible level, to provide students with a broad knowledge base from which to pursue more-specialized studies, and to offer a depth of experience in scholarship that will advance their future professional activities.
