Computer Science and Engineering
Computer science isn't about pocket protectors and acronym soup anymore. Instead, rapid advances in computing technology have made computer science and engineering part of your everyday life, whether it's your smartphone or your online application to the University of Nevada.
But while computer scientists and engineers may be at the forefront of jaw-dropping visual effects or trendy apps and games, professionals in the field are guided by methodical, scientific principles and technical expertise. Our degree programs train students in the step-by-step approach and rigorous analysis needed to find the best way to solve problems in computer science and engineering.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees that provide a well-rounded education in computing. Our students gain experience with both hardware and software and learn how to blend technical expertise with creative problem-solving skills to push technological boundaries, create automated solutions to human problems and build better computing systems.
At all levels, students have the opportunity to focus their computer science and engineering degree in one of four areas:
- Computer and network systems
- Games and simulations
- Intelligent systems
- Software systems
A versatile degree program and the opportunity to work with faculty who specialize in areas ranging from machine vision to robotics, from computer games and graphics to software engineering, prepares our graduates to take full advantage of the diverse job opportunities available for computer experts.
