The Department of Art offers programs in undergraduate instruction combining studio and art history classes with diverse studies in the Liberal Arts. The Department's focus, as it moves from the beginning through intermediate and into advanced courses, is both discipline specific, as in our Bachelor of Arts Studio program and inter and intra-disciplinary as in our Bachelor of Fine Arts offering. The Department recently created a new Master of Fine Arts, Studio degree program. Full discipline concentrations in the areas of: art education, art history, ceramics, digital and time-based media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture as well as experiences in the areas of performance art, gallery management and videography are available. The Department also participates in the University's Study Abroad Program offering both studio and academic courses to Nevada students studying abroad. In 2006, the nationally recognized Black Rock Press was integrated into the Department of Art. For over thirty years, the Black Rock Press has been dedicated to the practice and teaching of the arts and crafts associated with the creation of finely made printed books. Department of Art faculty, in addition to their individual instructional and supervisory responsibilities, are engaged in creative research, exhibition and electronic media and print publication activities which have earned regional, national and international recognition including an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmy Award Nomination and three NEA Fellowships.
