Life Insurance for retired members

Basic Life Insurance

If you participate in a State of Nevada PEBP–sponsored medical plan (e.g. PPO or HMO) or Medicare Exchange plan (e.g. OneExchange), the State provides you with Life insurance to help protect your loved ones in the event of your death. For retired members, the Basic plan is $12,500 of Life insurance coverage.

Voluntary Life Insurance

Because everyone's needs are different you also have the option to purchase Voluntary Life insurance at group rates. Voluntary Life coverage is available in multiples of $5,000, up to a maximum of $50,000.

Voluntary Life premiums for enrolled PEBP retired members are calculated based on the amount of coverage elected and the member's age as of each July 1, regardless of the amount of insurance elected.

Remember to Update Your Beneficiary

As a reminder, The Standard maintains all Life insurance beneficiary designations, including designations for Basic and Voluntary Life insurance. If you want to designate or update your beneficiary(ies), please complete the Beneficiary Designation and Change Form and return it to the address listed on the form.

Continuing activities

Grants–in-Aid

Emeritus faculty and professional staff, their spouses and financially dependent children are eligible for grant-in-aid privileges equivalent to those provided in the Board of Regents Handbook, Title 4, Chapter 3, Section 11.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

The Osher Institute offers a variety of social and intellectual classes and activities.

E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center membership

Fitness and Recreational Sports offers a variety of programs and wellness support options.

Additional benefits available to Emeritus Academic and Administrative Faculty 

  • University directory: Emeritus faculty members may be listed in the University's online directory if they choose. Contact information may also be listed if provided.
  • University Catalog Listing: Emeritus faculty member names and official emeritus titles are listed in the University's catalog.
  • WolfCard: Emeritus faculty are entitled to receive a faculty identification card (WolfCard), which can be obtained at the WolfCard Office in the Joe Crowley Student Union. Emeritus faculty with WolfCards are entitled to receive faculty/staff admission rates, if applicable, for many university events.
  • University Libraries: WolfCards are required for all transactions regarding library books and materials.
  • Email: Emeritus faculty may elect to maintain their university email account.
  • Adjunct or volunteer status: Emeritus Faculty may continue to serve the university in an adjunct or volunteer capacity.
  • Parking: Emeritus faculty may receive free green parking permit and the option to purchase a parking permit for a closer zone, pending availability.
  • Academic events and ceremonies: Emeritus Faculty are invited to participate in many academic events and ceremonies.
  • Lowered flag: The flags may be lowered upon the death of an emeritus faculty member, at the discretion of the president.
  • Business cards: Emeritus faculty may receive one complimentary box of University business cards. Contact the Office of the Provost for details.
