Need a poster but don't know where to start? The @One, a University Libraries department located on the first floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, is hosting Poster Palooza Friday, February 15, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in room 114. @One staff will be offering a variety of free, interactive lessons that will walk students through the complete process of designing, creating, and ordering an academic poster.

"The goal for Poster Palooza is to help students understand that the @One is a resource for them; kind of like the tutoring center, but for student-created posters," Multimedia Projects Coordinator Nicole Allen said. "We want students to know what resources are available to them at The @One. Most importantly we want them to utilize @One resources available to them."

Poster Palooza will help students to learn what makes an academic poster effective or ineffective, how to make a poster readable and easy to follow, how to use PowerPoint to create posters, how to place an order for a poster with the @One and much more.

"Poster Palooza was designed with student success in mind," Allen added. "It will teach students the skills they need to learn in order to create an academic poster when they have to print one for class presentations."

Poster Palooza event lessons are short, 30 minutes lessons, because we recognize that students have busy schedules. Students can choose from a menu of Poster Palooza lessons, and are welcome to attend any and all that are of interest.

"We understand that students don't have a lot of free time," Allen said. "Poster Palooza will provide students with a quick, hands-on opportunity to learn valuable skills and immediately start applying them to their course work."
In between lessons there will be open times in the @One lab for students to ask questions. Poster Palooza attendees are encouraged to bring laptops in order to work on and get help with assignments.

Additionally, all students that attend Poster Palooza will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a free academic poster print from the @One, offered on satin or matte paper at the standard size of 48 x 36.
