The 2026 U.S. News Online Rankings report has been released and five of the University of Nevada, Reno’s programs have been ranked among the nation’s best. For the rankings, U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 1,850 online degree programs at regionally accredited institutions that offer predominantly online classes needed to complete the degree.

Two of the University’s previously ranked programs have moved up, and three programs have ranked for the first time.

The University’s online programs on the list include:

  • Online Nursing: #5 (tied), up from #53 in the 2025 rankings
  • Online Education: #36 (tied), up from #63 in the 2025 rankings
  • Online Engineering: #84-111, first time ranked
  • Online MBA: #71 (tied), first time ranked
  • Online Undergraduate Business: #88, first time ranked, program launched in 2025

These nationwide rankings are determined by the U.S. News online ranking system and take into consideration several factors, including graduation rates, faculty credentials, access to remote support services, available technologies and course delivery best practices. U.S. News has been publishing online degree program rankings since 2013.

The factors and weights taken into account for ranking each type of online program vary based on the discipline, and rankings are updated annually, usually in January. You can learn more about the ranking criteria and process by visiting the U.S. News Online Education webpage.

While rankings can be a useful benchmark, the University’s Office of Prospective Students encourages everyone to conduct first-hand research when selecting a college or degree program. Direct engagement provides unique insights into a University’s academic environment, campus life, degree offerings, financial aid options and more.

The University offers 39 online degree and certificate programs. Learn more about these and other online programs offered through the University of Nevada, Reno at Nevada Online.
