About Global Studies
The Ozmen Institute for Global Studies opened in July, 2018. The Institute at the University of Nevada, Reno, is made possible from a generous donation with the intended purpose to better connect the world. The Institute serves as the central hub to develop, enhance and stimulate globally-focused initiatives from across campus. The Institute will create new opportunities for University faculty members and students to engage in global initiatives and collaborate on existing programs to foster world-wide engagement on campus and in the community.
The Institute is a research and outreach initiative where faculty members who work on global topics at the University can be invited to become affiliated with the Ozmen Institute for Global Studies. It will bring together faculty members, well-established scholars and students from participating colleges and schools across campus to provide them with opportunities for collaboration and funding to develop impactful global research and programs. It is intended that joint research projects will be developed around thematic clusters such as globalization, international security, economic development, immigration and border studies, and geopolitical and strategic studies, which will result in grants conferences, or research papers. The Institute will help to develop this research by offering funding and logistical support to faculty involved in global studies.
In addition, the Ozmen Institute for Global Studies will have a robust outreach program aimed at promoting dialogue on critical global issues. It plans to cultivate strong public awareness of global issues that are important to Northern Nevada communities. The Institute will work with local agencies by engaging in awareness in global issues.
The Ozmen Institute for Global Studies is at the forefront of creating knowledge through basic and applied research, scholarship and artistry in strategically selected fields that affect Nevada, the nation and the world. Are you ready to become involved? Email Director Berch Berberoglu.
