Summary
J. Thomas Wright teaches courses in composition and argumentation. His interests include argumentation theory, composition pedagogy, online writing instruction and disability rhetoric. He received his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Scientific and Technical Communication from the University of Minnesota.
His students nominated him for the Alan Bible Excellence in Teaching Award in each of his first three years at the University of Nevada, Reno; he was chosen as a semi-finalist in 2026. In that year, he also received the W.W. Norton Engaged Teaching Award in Core Writing.
He lives with his son, his daughter, his son’s dog and his daughter’s cat.
