Applied Voice, Bachelor of Music Degree

The Bachelor of Music in Applied Voice degree at the University of Nevada, Reno concentrates on developing technical skills for pursuing professional careers in music performance. Emphasis is placed upon both solo and ensemble achievement.

The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts provides education in the history, performance, theory and pedagogy of music. Music majors take courses, participate in ensembles and perform in concerts that reflect the diversity and richness of the world’s cultures. A degree in music will provide students the skills and knowledge to successfully contribute as music performers.


The Department of Music at the University of Nevada, Reno also offers a minor in music. The minor program emphasizes the development of an appreciation for different music genres, knowledge of music theory, exposure to the history of music and applied experience in ensemble playing.

The University Arts Building presents one of the finest acoustic environments for practice, rehearsal and performance in the United States. The building features acoustically tuned practice rooms, large ensemble rehearsal spaces, state-of-the-art recording and electroacoustic compositions labs and the magnificent 280-seat Harlan O. & Barbara R. Hall Recital Hall. Along with the venerable Nightingale Concert Hall and additional teaching spaces in the Church Fine Arts Building, Nevada provides the perfect place to learn, grow and perform.

Internships/career opportunities

Graduates of the applied voice program can be found among the ranks of professional orchestras, with private labels, prestigious graduate programs and instructing at universities across the country.
