The teacher education programs at the University of Nevada, Reno strive to be first-class in teacher, school counselor and principal preparation with emphasis on content-specific competencies within each academic discipline. Each program is comprehensive with particular focus on the Council for the Accreditation of Educational Programs (CAEP) standards. In literacy studies, we meet the International Reading Association expectations for literacy teachers at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our course expectations honor University students working with K-12 students as they come to know the foundational elements of literacy, the Common Core State Standards, how to match assessment to instruction, and how to successfully work with students from a variety socioeconomic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The expectations within literacy studies for our students are rigorous, as we believe literacy is the foundation for all learning.
