The ambassadors are students who serve as the leadership and public relations team for the Agriculture, Veterinary & Range Sciences programs. The 2023-24 academic year is the new launch of this organization, which will work to promote the department to prospective students, alumni, industry and government partners, donors, and other stakeholders.
Agriculture, Veterinary, & Range Science Ambassadors
Meet our Student Ambassadors
Charlie Wright
Veterinary Science, and Agricultural Economics
I am a first-year student from northern Nevada in a dual-degree program, agriculture science and economics. I attended Spring Creek High School and grew up on a small ranch. My parents’ Western store, J.M. Capriolas, is where I worked, learning silversmithing, sales, and marketing. Continuing my journey in the agriculture industry here at the University of Nevada, Reno, I plan to keep the Western tradition alive and to always work hard for the agriculture industry!
Grace McAndrews
Rangeland Ecology and Management
I am an undergraduate student; my major is rangeland ecology and management, with a minor in statistics. While I have been a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, I have had numerous opportunities, such as working in the Stringham Rangeland Ecology Lab on campus and being president of the Student Chapter for the Society of Range Management. These opportunities have enhanced my experience as a student all the while preparing me for my future. After I graduate, I strive to find a job in rangeland ecology and management overseas, later pursuing a master's or doctorate.
Sarah Perry
NevadaTeach; Agricultural Sciences and Secondary Education
I am from California and in my third year at the University of Nevada, Reno. My goal is to become a high school agricultural teacher and FFA advisor. Not only am I one of the ambassadors for the Agriculture, Veterinary & Rangeland Sciences department, but I also work as a peer mentor for the NevadaTeach Program in the College of Education and am vice president for the University’s Rodeo Team, and a member of the school’s Society of Range Management. I have always had a love for the Western industry and will continue to advocate for agriculture as I pursue my goals. Go Pack!
Emily Carleton
Veterinary Science
I am from southern Nevada and graduated from Arbor View High School. I am currently a junior at the University of Nevada, Reno, and am a first-generation college student. So, college is new to me, but I would not have it any other way. In addition to being on the AVRS ambassador team, I am also a student ambassador for the university. This allows me to show prospective students around campus and talk about potential programs of study. After college, I plan to get my veterinary technician license, gain industry experience, and later go to veterinary school to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I have shadowed veterinarians and I love this field of study. I have a strong passion for helping animals and I love learning about them here at the University.
Matia Dreyer
NevadaTeach; Agricultural Sciences and Secondary Education
I am in my third year of college, and my family are fourth-generation ranchers from northern Nevada. Currently, I am teaching middle school students “fire science” for the University’s Desert Farming Initiative. After graduating, I plan to teach high school agriculture and run my family's ranch. Fun fact: I love to drive the harrow bed and pick up hay!
Abigail Jaynes (Volunteer)
NevadaTeach; Agricultural Sciences and Secondary Education
I attended Douglas High School in northern Nevada and took college courses through the Jump Start Program during my junior and senior years of high school. I am currently a junior at the University of Nevada, Reno, pursuing two bachelor’s degrees through the NevadaTeach Program, one in secondary education and one in agricultural sciences. I am very enthusiastic about promoting the future of agriculture and excited to be able to work with the AVRS ambassador team. After I graduate from the university, I plan to teach agriculture in northern Nevada.
Joseph Burns (Volunteer)
Veterinary Science and Wildlife Ecology
I am a first-year student from southern Nevada. I am excited to be a part of the AVRS ambassadors and assist potential students with getting connected to their program of study. I enjoy hanging out with friends and family. During high school, I played tennis competitively and still play for fun. It is a passion!
