Summary

Currently in his second year of the master’s program in anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno, Sean Sullivan holds a B.A. in history and archaeology from Portland State University. He completed field school in East Lothian, Scotland, and began his professional archaeological career as a wildfire archaeological resource advisor on assignments in Alaska, Northern California, and Oregon. He has since worked as a field technician for the U.S. Forest Service (Lassen National Forest), the National Park Service (Kenai Fjords National Park), and Callista Brice Environmental, where he conducted fieldwork in remote areas of the Aleutian Islands and the Seward Peninsula. His experience includes extensive backcountry survey, excavation, archaeological site mapping, and environmental remediation monitoring.

Research interests

  • Spatial analysis and human-environment interaction in coastal and island settings
  • Integrating GIS-based models within a Human Behavioral Ecology framework to understand past land use strategies
  • Investigating how erosion and environmental stress impact archaeological site preservation
  • Developing applied conservation approaches for protecting vulnerable cultural resources during field operations
