Our workshops introduce fellowship opportunities and core application skills such as personal statements, recommendation letters and interviews. Workshops are often a first step before individual advising.

  • Boren Fellowship

    The Boren Fellowship, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, is for U.S. graduate students (Master’s or Ph.D. level) pursuing language study and international research in regions critical to U.S. national security. The award offers up to $30,000 for combined overseas and domestic programs lasting up to 12 months and includes a one-year federal service commitment after graduation.

  • Boren Scholarship

    The Boren Scholarship, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, is for U.S. undergraduate students committed to studying languages in regions critical to U.S. national security. The award offers up to $25,000 for overseas language study, academic coursework, research, or internships lasting up to one year, and includes a one-year federal service commitment after graduation

  • Churchill Scholarship

    The Churchill Scholarship is for U.S. citizens pursuing graduate study in science, engineering, or mathematics at the University of Cambridge. The award covers full tuition, a living stipend, and travel expenses (valued at approximately $65,000), and supports one year of study.

  • Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals

    The CBYX Program is for U.S. citizens aged 18–24 pursuing careers in fields such as business, education, engineering, health, or social sciences. The award covers travel expenses, living allowances, and health insurance, supports one year in Germany, and includes intensive language training, university study, and a professional internship. The program promotes public diplomacy and cultural exchange between the United States and Germany.

  • Critical Language Scholarship

    The Critical Language Scholarship is for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students interested in studying critical foreign languages through immersive overseas experiences. The program is fully funded, supports 8–10 weeks of intensive summer study, and includes cultural enrichment activities and language immersion. A virtual option, the CLS Spark, is also available.

  • DAAD-RISE Germany

    The DAAD RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) program is for U.S. sophomores and juniors pursuing studies in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, or engineering. The award provides funding for 2–3 months of summer research with faculty mentors in Germany, and includes housing assistance, a monthly stipend, and cultural programming. 

  • Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund

    The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to undergraduate and graduate students actively engaged in movements for social, economic, and racial justice, self-determination, and liberation. The award offers up to $15,000 per year for educational expenses. It supports students both with financial need and a strong commitment to grassroots organizing and activism.

  • Fulbright: English Teaching Assistant Programs

    The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program is for recent U.S. college graduates and young professionals interested in teaching English abroad. The award includes a living stipend, travel costs, and health insurance. The program lasts up to one year, and offers cultural exchange, language immersion, and community engagement. (Award amounts vary by country).

  • Fulbright Study/Research Award

    The Fulbright Study/Research Award is for graduating seniors, graduate students, and recent alumni pursuing graduate study and/or conducting research abroad. The award provides a living stipend, travel costs, and health insurance. It supports up to one academic year, and includes opportunities for independent research, cultural exchange, and global networking. (Award values vary by country).

  • Fulbright-Killam Fellowships Program

    The Fulbright-Killam Fellowships Program is for exceptional U.S. undergraduate students interested in studying abroad in Canada. The award provides up to $12,000 (a $6,000 stipend per semester) and includes a health benefit plan. It supports study for either one semester or a full academic year at a Canadian university.

  • Fulbright UK Summer Institute

    The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are for first- and second-year U.S. undergraduate students with at least two years of study remaining who are interested in exploring British culture, history, and higher education. The award covers program costs, travel expenses, housing, and a living stipend, and supports 3–4 weeks of summer study at a UK university.

  • Gaither Fellows

    The Gaither Junior Fellows Program is for recent U.S. graduates interested in international affairs and policy research. The award provides a $45,000 salary plus benefits, supports one year of full-time work at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and includes opportunities to assist scholars focused on research projects in areas such as democracy, nuclear policy, technology, global order, and sustainability.

  • Gilman-McCain Scholarship

    The Gilman-McCain Scholarship is for undergraduate dependents of active-duty U.S. military personnel who receive federal financial aid (Title IV) and are interested in studying or interning abroad. The award provides up to $5,000 and supports one academic term or semester of overseas study or internship in credit-bearing programs.

  • Gilman Scholarship Program

     The Gilman Scholarship supports undergraduate students receiving federal Pell Grant funding who are interested in studying or interning abroad. The award provides up to $5,000, with additional funding available for specific programs. The scholarship covers one academic term or semester overseas in credit-bearing programs.

  • Goldwater Scholarship

    The Goldwater Scholarship is for outstanding U.S. undergraduate sophomores and juniors pursuing research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering. The award provides up to $7,500 per year toward undergraduate educational expenses for one or two years, and supports students committed to advanced study and scientific research.

  • Honors Global Travel Award

    The Honors Global Travel Award, supported by the University of Nevada, Reno Honors College, is for current honors students participating in credit-bearing summer global travel programs. Each year, scholarships of $1,000 are awarded to support international academic experiences.

    Application Deadlines:  October 1 (for wintermester and spring trips) and March 1 (for summer and fall trips)

  • John Lewis Young Leaders (JLYL) Program

    The John Lewis Young Leaders program is a year-long fellowship for undergraduate students committed to social justice and civic leadership. The award provides a $2,000 stipend (paid in two installments), and $1,000 in additional funding for capstone project events and activities.

  • The Luce Scholars Program

    The Luce Scholars Program is for U.S. college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals with limited exposure to Asia who demonstrate strong leadership potential and seek to gain professional experience in the region. The award supports one year of immersive living and working in Asia, and includes a job placement, language training, and a living stipend.

  • Marshall Scholarship

    The Marshall Scholarship is for U.S. citizens interested in pursuing graduate study at a university in the United Kingdom. The scholarship covers full graduate tuition, living expenses, and travel costs, and supports two years of study.

  • National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)

    The NSF GRFP supports outstanding graduate students pursuing full-time, research-based master’s or doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) fields, or STEM education at accredited U.S. institutions. The award provides three years of support over a five-year fellowship period, including a $37,000 annual stipend and a $16,000 cost-of-education allowance paid to the institution.

  • National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU)

    The NSF REU is for U.S. undergraduate students interested in research in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), or STEM education. Students participate in 8–10 week summer research projects at REU Sites across the U.S. or abroad, working closely with faculty mentors and research teams. Most programs provide a stipend and offer support for housing, meals, and travel.

  • NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program

    The NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program supports U.S. undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, or social science research. The award provides up to $20,000 per academic year for tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living costs. It includes a paid summer research internship and a service commitment with the NIH after graduation.

  • Nevada Undergraduate Research Award (NURA)

    The Nevada Undergraduate Research Award is for University of Nevada, Reno undergraduates in any discipline who wish to engage in research or creative projects under faculty mentorship. Awards range from $1,125 to $3,375 per cycle and support academic-year or summer projects.

  • Pack Internship Grant Program

    The Pack Internship Grant Program is for University of Nevada, Reno students seeking spring semester internships with local start-ups, non-profits, and public or government agencies. Internships are paid positions at $16/hour for up to 120 hours. They offer professional development experience.

  • Pack Research Experience Program (PREP)

    The Pack Research Experience Program is for first and second-year undergraduate students at the University of Nevada, Reno, with a focus on first-generation students and/or those historically underrepresented in undergraduate research. The award provides $2,250 and pairs students with a faculty mentor to pursue a research or creative activity project. Participants work approximately 10 hours per week at $15 per hour over a 15-week semester.

  • Paul & Daisy Fellowships for New Americans

    The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships support New Americans (specifically, immigrants and children of immigrants) who are pursuing graduate study and are poised to make significant contributions to U.S. culture, society, or academia. The award provides up to $90,000, including $40,000 toward tuition and $50,000 in stipend support, and can be used for up to two years of full-time graduate study at any accredited U.S. institution.

  • Payne Fellowship

    The Payne Fellowship is for individuals pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The award provides up to $104,000 toward tuition, fees, and related expenses for the completion of a two-year master’s degree in international development or another relevant area at a U.S. institution. It includes two summer internships and a service commitment with USAID after.

  • Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship

    The Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship supports active members of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society entering their first year of graduate or professional study. The award provides funding for one year of full-time graduate education, with 40 fellowships of $8,500, six of $15,000, and two of $35,000 awarded each year.

  • Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

    Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are available to undergraduate students at institutions with active Phi Kappa Phi chapters who plan to participate in accredited study abroad programs. Each year, 125 grants of $1,000 are awarded to support international academic experiences.

  • Point Foundation Scholarships (Flagship and Access)

    Point Foundation Scholarships provide financial support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time at accredited U.S. institutions. The Flagship Scholarship offers multi-year funding, mentorship, and leadership development for students with strong academic achievement and community commitment; while the Access Scholarship provides one-time support of up to $1,500 for students from underrepresented backgrounds with financial need.

  • Rangel Graduate Fellowship

    The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is for individuals interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. The award provides up to $42,000 annually for tuition, fees, and living expenses. It covers two years of graduate study, and includes two paid internships, professional development, and mentoring by a Foreign Service Officer.

  • Rangel Summer Enrichment Program

    The Rangel Summer Enrichment Program is for U.S. undergraduate students interested in exploring careers in international affairs. The award covers tuition, travel, housing, and meals on weekdays, provides a stipend of $3,300, and supports six weeks of academic and professional programming in Washington, D.C.

  • Rhodes Scholarship

    The Rhodes Scholarship is for outstanding students from around the world who wish to pursue graduate study at the University of Oxford. The award covers Oxford course fees, provides a living stipend, supports up to two years of study, and includes leadership development and engagement with an international cohort.

  • SMART Scholarship for Service Program

    The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), supports undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in STEM disciplines. The award covers full tuition, provides a stipend of $30,000–$46,000 per year (based on degree level), and includes allowances for books and health insurance. Recipients also complete a paid DoD internship and commit to post-graduation service at a DoD facility.

  • Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

    SURF programs offer undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct full-time, faculty-mentored research during the summer at participating institutions. These programs are often funded through institutional support or external grants (including, in some cases, NSF REU funding), and usually provide a stipend, along with research training and professional development over 8–10 weeks. Notable examples include programs at Caltech and Purdue.

  • The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship

    The Pickering Fellowship is for individuals committed to serving as Foreign Service Officers with the U.S. Department of State. The award provides up to $42,000 annually for tuition, fees, and living expenses. It supports two years of graduate study, includes two summer internships, mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer, and professional development activities.

  • The Tillman Scholar Program

    The Tillman Scholar Program supports U.S. active-duty service members, veterans, and military spouses pursuing full-time undergraduate, graduate, or professional degrees at accredited U.S. institutions. The award provides an average of $10,000 per year toward educational expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and living costs, and includes leadership development.

  • Truman Scholarship

    The Truman Scholarship is for U.S. undergraduate juniors who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to public service. The award provides up to $30,000 for graduate study in a public service field, includes professional development and a summer leadership institute, and requires recipients to work in public service for at least three of the seven years after completing their degree.

  • Udall Scholarship

    The Udall Scholarship is for U.S. sophomores and juniors committed to careers related to the environment, or for Native American and Alaska Native students pursuing careers in tribal public policy or Native health care. The award provides up to $7,000 for academic expenses, includes a four-day scholar orientation in Tucson, and connects recipients to a national network of environmental and Indigenous leaders.
