The Department of Political Science offers competitive graduate teaching assistantships to our graduate students. These assistantships come with significant benefits, including a 100% tuition waiver and eligibility for insurance coverage.
Workload and responsibilities
Our graduate teaching assistantships are designed to provide valuable teaching experience to our students. The workload is typically 20 hours per week. Students work with faculty to teach undergraduate courses and once they have gained enough experience in the classroom, often have the opportunity to teach their own courses.
Financial support
A graduate teaching assistantship includes a monthly stipend, paid over 10 months, and a range of other benefits. Please see the Graduate School’s Assistantships page to learn more about these assistantships. You can also use the Graduate School’s Cost Calculator to estimate your out-of-pocket costs if you receive an assistantship.
Application process
Students are automatically considered for an assistantship when they apply to a graduate program if they indicate on their application that they are seeking funding. If an applicant does not request funding on their application, the department will not consider them for an assistantship. Applicants do not need to complete a separate form/application to apply for an assistantship. At this time, we are not offering funding to MPA students.
