Watch and discover the meaning behind Raíces Brillantes [Brilliant Roots] – the new mural for the Latino Research Center

Jafeth Sanchez, Ph.D., director of the Latino Research Center, spoke with Reno-based muralist and U.S. Veteran Edwin Martinez-Escobar, the artist who created the University of Nevada, Reno’s latest piece of art. Raíces Brillantes [Brilliant Roots] is a vibrant mural inside Edmund J. Cain Hall at the University. The mural celebrates the heritage, perseverance, and dynamic spirit of Nevada’s Latino/Hispanic community.

Martinez-Escobar’s work covers three walls with bold imagery blending history, culture, and identity, from ancient symbols and migratory journeys to modern achievements like space exploration.

Infused with personal meaning, the mural honors community, family, and the many ways Latino/Hispanic contributions continue to shape Nevada.
