Ania Calvillo-Mason’s connection to the Innevation Center began during her junior year at the University of Nevada, Reno, when she accepted a student employee position at the front desk. At the time, she didn’t know the opportunity would shape the next decade of her life.

“I didn’t feel like I belonged in the business world,” Calvillo-Mason said. “But the Innevation Center changed that – it gave me a chance to grow personally and professionally.”

After earning her bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies in 2018, she transitioned into an administrative role at the Innevation Center and eventually became business manager. Over the course of nine years, she supported the center’s evolution into a dynamic incubator space and resource hub for entrepreneurs, researchers and community partners.

One of her most memorable moments was hosting the President of Poland in 2019. Her proudest milestone? Earning her MBA in 2025 – an accomplishment she credits to the support and inspiration she found through her work at the center.

“The Innevation Center gave me access to an incredible network,” she said. “It helped me see myself as a community builder and change maker.”

Through her role, Calvillo-Mason built strong relationships with local entrepreneur support organizations (ESOs), leading to collaborative efforts that continue to drive positive impact across the region.

Now serving as strategic planning and economic development coordinator in the University Center for Economic Development (UCED), Calvillo-Mason is focused on expanding innovation and entrepreneurship programming statewide.

“I never imagined I’d work in the business world,” she said. “But I fell in love with it – and I’m truly invested in the success of our community.”

Looking ahead, she hopes to see Northern Nevada’s innovation ecosystem grow into a nationally recognized hub where University research, startups and industry come together to solve real-world challenges.

Her advice to current and future Innevation Center members?

“Immerse yourself. Take advantage of the resources around you. The support is there – you just have to show up.”
