Nevada Athletics Hall of Famer and 2025 Athletics Distinguished Alumnus Eathan O’Bryant was honored with a proclamation Wednesday by Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve and the city council. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, was declared “Eathan O’Bryant Day” for his long-time numerous contributions to and positive impact on the Reno and Northern Nevada communities.

In addition to the proclamation for O’Bryant, the University of Nevada was recognized for its significant impact on the local community and economy, and the City issued a proclamation that Nov. 29, 2025, the date of The Battle for the Fremont Cannon against UNLV at Mackay Stadium (6 p.m. kickoff), would be declared “Paint the Cannon Blue Day” in support of the Wolf Pack. Helping celebrate the proclamation was Wolfie Jr., who was appointed by Schieve as “Mayor for the Day” for the City of Reno.

"Today was such a special day recognizing Eathan O'Bryant for all of his contributions to our community," said Nevada Director of Athletics Stephanie Rempe. "Eathan's love for the Wolf Pack, Reno, and Northern Nevada embodies the very best of the University and our alumni. Thank you to Mayor Schieve and the city council for its recognition of Eathan and its support of the Wolf Pack in our upcoming Battle for the Fremont Cannon next week in Nevada's College Town!"

Inducted into the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021, O’Bryant came to Nevada from Dixie College in 1994 and spent two successful season with the Wolf Pack. O’Bryant averaged 11.2 points and 7.6 assists per game in his Nevada career and was twice honored by the Big West, being named to the conference’s First Team in 1995 after earning a spot on the Second Team in his debut season.

He remains a fixture in the Nevada Men’s Basketball record book, his career marks of 7.7 assists per game and 438 assists sitting second and seventh, respectively, entering the 2025-26 campaign. His single-season assist totals of 227 in 1993-94 and 210 in 1994-95 rank tied for third and fifth, respectively, with the former leading the Big West and ranking in the national top five.

O’Bryant’s professional career took him across Europe, including MVP honors in Slovakia, before joining the Harlem Globetrotters for 11 years. In 2002, he helped develop the nationally recognized “C.H.E.E.R. for Character” program, presented in hundreds of elementary schools with support from the U.S. Department of Education. He was named 2007 Celebrity of the Year by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Off the court, O’Bryant has coached and mentored many young athletes through the Nevada Basketball Academy, his nonprofit - Youth In Pursuit, which supports teen fathers and helps youth turn goals into reality, and currently, Kids Kottage. Over 300 of his students have earned basketball scholarships.
