Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering

The Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering (DGSE) is the academic portion of Nevada Geosciences, offering a variety of classes that supports multiple undergraduate majors and minors, an Accelerated BS/MS program and several graduate degree options.

The Department’s excellent facilities support a range of geoscience research from geochemical laboratory investigations to field exploration. Our faculty involve undergraduate and graduate students in research local to the Reno area and internationally. Graduating BS, MS and PhD students easily find jobs that address critical societal questions, from natural resources (geothermal, mining) to water to infrastructure via geotechnical assessment, as well as academic and state and federal survey positions.
