The University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe provides students with the opportunity to tap into the cutting-edge collaborative research and scholarly activities happening in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin, led by our faculty. The University acquired the Lake Tahoe Wayne L. Prim Campus from Sierra Nevada University in 2022 and has incorporated the tight-knit community culture of the former institution with the Carnegie R-1 education provided by the University of Nevada, Reno to create an unmatched immersive educational experience for our students.

Low-residency MFA programs

The University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe offers two low-residency Master in Fine Arts programs, one in interdisciplinary arts and one in creative writing. Over 2.5 years, the low-residency format combines intensive ten-day residency periods each winter and summer at the Lake Tahoe Wayne L. Prim campus with full-time work in the student’s home studio throughout the following semesters. These two well-established and nationally recognized programs are each a celebrated legacy of Sierra Nevada University.

The University of Nevada, Reno began operations at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe on July 1, 2022, after entering into an agreement to acquire Sierra Nevada University. A key priority in the initial years after the acquisition is to ensure that former SNU students have the opportunity complete their degrees.
