Summary
Alexander Leos-Rangel is working towards a Bachelor's in Microbiology and Immunology. He is currently attending courses in medical microbiology, microbial physiology, and cell biology. His mentor is Dr. David AuCoin, and his research focuses on the diagnostic discovery, specifically the development of later flow immunoassays (LFI). From starting as a chores person to working with hybridised cells, Alexander has been active in all aspects of the lab. Previously, Alexander worked on the isolation of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against Nipah Virus’ nucleoprotein. By doing so, his lab is able to start on the production of LFIs for rapid diagnostic use. Currently, he is working on the isolation of mAbs against Canine IgG4 (antibody response to Guinea Worm). Alexander presented his work from his Nipah Virus project at a presentation session at the Annual SSS/McNair Conference, Atlanta, GA in June 2025. He participated in the NSF GRFP Workshop and other workshops on proposal writing.
