The Office of Undergraduate (and Graduate) Fellowships proudly announces that Honors College student Andrew Hsu has been awarded the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship, one of the nation’s most competitive honors for undergraduates pursuing research careers in science, mathematics and engineering.
Hsu, a junior majoring in computer science and engineering with minors in biology and big data, was selected from a highly competitive national pool. As one of five University nominees, he is recognized for his outstanding academic record, interdisciplinary focus and clear path toward a Ph.D. in computational biology.
His research includes genome-wide association studies, stochastic modeling of tumor drug resistance, deep learning approaches to transcription start site prediction and gene duplication. His work reflects strong technical depth and a commitment to solving complex biological problems via computation.
The scholarship provides support, allowing Hsu to focus on research and coursework. His experience includes multiple campus research roles and participation in a National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.
Hsu’s recognition highlights the strength of undergraduate research at the University and shows his momentum toward a career in computational biology.
Congratulations, Andrew Hsu!
