The University of Nevada, Reno is recognized as a voter-friendly campus and has been for over five years. The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) Center for Student Engagement wants to empower all students to make their voices heard and below is vital information for students living in the residence halls on campus or off campus regarding the upcoming general election.
Here are a few quick facts regarding voter registration in Nevada:
- To register to vote, students must be U.S. Citizens, 18 by election day, and residents of the county for at least 30 days by Election Day.
- If a student has a Nevada-issued ID, they can register to vote and update their address with that ID online on the ASUN Voter Registration Portal.
- If a student living in Washoe County doesn’t have a Nevada-issued ID, they must register to vote with a paper form by Oct. 8 to vote in the 2024 elections. The Center for Student Engagement is registering students to vote via paper forms in their office, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Oct. 8 at noon.
- A student living on campus in the Resident Halls who is not already registered to vote in Washoe County must use the mailing address listed on the Voting Resources for Students website.
- Anyone registered to vote in Washoe County can participate in early voting or election day at any voting location, including those on campus.
- Students are also welcome to vote in their county of origin. For this, they would need to complete a mail-in ballot from the county/state where they were previously registered. Some of these regions may require the voter to request their mail-in ballot. For more information, please visit the online resources on the ASUN Voter Registration Portal.
Students living in residence halls can find detailed information and instructions about voter registration on the Voting Resources for Students website. In some cases, students who live in the dorms who wish to register in Washoe County should use the physical address of their residence hall along with the mailing address of the Center for Student Engagement. All details are provided on the webpage.
Students can check their voter registration status or register to vote by visiting the ASUN Voter Registration Portal, which is in partnership with Civic Nation.
