Each year, one living and one deceased person who made significant and lasting contributions to the State of Nevada are awarded the newly created Nevada Medal of Distinction. The Nevada Awards and Honor Board Selection Committee will nominate and select the individuals awarded the Nevada Medal of Distinction each year.

Speaker Steve Yeager was able to select two committee members for the inaugural board to serve three-year terms and he has selected University President and Former Governor Brian Sandoval and Former Governor Bob Miller.

The committee is comprised of nine members, each of which nominates one living and one deceased person to be considered for the Nevada Medal of Distinction. The committee will then select the awardees who will be honored with the Nevada Medal of Distinction during a ceremony each year.

“I am delighted that Governors Sandoval and Miller agreed to serve in this capacity,” Speaker Yeager said. “They both have long and storied histories in the Silver State and I can think of no better duo to be a part of the very first nomination and selection process for the Nevada Medal of Distinction. Their love for Nevada and its history is unrivaled.”

“I am humbled and honored to be on the Nevada Awards and Honor Board Selection Committee and am deeply thankful to Speaker Yeager for selecting me to serve,” President Sandoval said. “This appointment holds profound significance to me as this committee has the opportunity to honor and recognize individuals who make, and who have made, significant impact in building and supporting our great state. Through recognizing their achievements, we honor the collective contributions of the past and help inspire an innovative and diverse future for Nevada.”
