LibKey is a set of tools available from the University Libraries that simplifies access to library subscribed content and open-access journal articles. The LibKey suite comes from the creators of BrowZine; which allows users to access and browse e-journals from different publishers in one simple interface. 

It makes available different tools to help you locate and view journal articles with fewer clicks. LibKey Discovery provides direct links to PDFs from OneSearch to facilitate access. LibKey Link provides one-click access to PDFs in PubMed. LibKey.io helps researchers find articles by DOI or PubMed ID. LibKey Nomad is a browser extension tool available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Vivaldi, and Brave to present full-text access options available when searching online. 

LibKey Discovery

LibKey Discovery integrates the functionality of the LibKey suite into OneSearch to provide one-click access to the full text of library –subscribed content and open access articles. When you find a full text article in OneSearch that the University of Nevada, Reno subscribes to, you will see a “Download Now” link. Click on the link to download the full text PDF. 

LibKey Link

LibKey Link integrates with PubMed to provide one-click access to the full text of articles found in PubMed.  

Like other LibKey products, if full text is available through the University Libraries’ subscriptions, it can be downloaded quickly and easily. Otherwise, you will be offered options for requesting the article from the University Libraries’ Interlibrary Loan (ILL). 

LibKey.io

Do you have an article DOI or PubMed ID (PMID) and want to see if the article is available through the Libraries’ subscriptions? LibKey.io helps researchers find articles by DOI or PubMed ID quickly. University of Nevada, Reno users can access LibKey.io through the library's unique portal. If the article is available, you’ll see the options for the PDF or the article link. If the article is unavailable, users will still have the option to submit a request through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). 

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser extension available for Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Brave and Vivaldi users. Once you install it, you can use it to download full text articles to which the University Libraries’ subscribe to, from any publisher website where you find them. When the full text PDF is available to you, you will see a LibKey Download PDF icon in the bottom left corner of the page. If not, you will see a button labeled Access Options, which will direct you to the University Libraries’ Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  

LibKey Nomad links will also display in PubMed and Wikipedia. 

User Setup 

• To set up access, search for the LibKey Nomad browser extension tool for the compatible browsers
• You will need to select your institution – select “University of Nevada Reno” from the dropdown menu. Once selected, you will see the university’s block N logo. 
• The LibKey nomad logo (a small light green flame) will display on the top right of your browser window where your browser extensions are. 
• When you are on an article page, the green flame button with options for article access will appear on the bottom left of the page.

During each academic year, the Libraries welcomes more than 1.2 million visitors across its network of three libraries: the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, the DeLaMare Science and Engineering Library and the Savitt Medical Library. Visitors checked-out more than 80,000 items and completed more than two million database searches.
