Chris Newfield, a professor of literature and American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will be the featured speaker for the Faculty Senate's fall speaker event on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theater. A reception will be held immediately following Newfield's talk from 5-6 p.m. in JCSU Room 324.

Newfield will speak on the subject, "Public Universities: A Path Out of Continuing Crisis." He is author of several books, including, "Unmaking the Public University: The Forty-Year Assault on the Middle Class," as well as "Ivy and Industry: Business and the Making of the American University, 1880-1980."
