McCaffrey named University Controller

Philomena “Phyl” McCaffrey has been named University controller for the University of Nevada, Reno.

McCaffrey joined the University in 2005 as senior financial accountant in the Controller’s Office and has been responsible for all financial reporting for the University. Before joining the University, she worked in the Nevada State Controller’s Office for ten years where she was responsible for all financial reporting for the State of Nevada. A certified public accountant, McCaffrey has also worked in accounting for the Nevada Housing Division and a private accounting firm, Anderson, Behrenz & Company.

“Maintaining continued financial accountability and reporting compliance is critically important for the University, making this a key position,” said Tom Judy, University associate vice president for business and finance. “Phyl brings an impressive commitment to and experience in financial accountability and compliance with respect to federal, state and Nevada System of Higher Education accounting and reporting practices.”

McCaffrey received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. She will be responsible for the effective management and accounting of all financial assets of the University, and will be responsible for Controller’s Office functions including accounts payable, cashier, nonresident-alien tax, payroll, travel and student accounting.
