Summary

My name is Omar Hernández, and I grew up in Mexico City. In 2013, I began a bachelor's degree in Geography at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During my undergraduate studies, I shifted my focus from human geography and archaeology, disciplines that continue to hold a significant personal interest, to the captivating field of geomorphology, volcanology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). My undergraduate thesis focused on a geomorphotectonic study and the analysis of a cohesive debris flow at Pi-co de Orizaba (Citlaltépetl volcano). In 2021, I enrolled in a master’s degree in Environmental Geography, applying UAV photogrammetry and DEM differencing to quantify erosion and deposition in a ravine at Popocatépetl volcano.

Alongside my academic work, I have worked as an independent consultant in environmental planning, hydrologic hazards, and environ-mental impact assessments for the construction sector. I am now beginning my PhD in Hydrologic Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno, working with Professor Joel Scheingross on fluvial geomorphology and volcanic landscape response. Beyond research, I enjoy hiking, cooking, flying my drone, playing the handpan, and spending time with friends.
