Update on COVID-19 vaccination requirements

July 11, 2022

This message was sent to faculty and staff at the University of Nevada, Reno.

At the June 30, 2022, Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents meeting, the Board of Regents repealed NSHE Code (Title 2, Chapter 12), which sets forth policies and procedures regarding the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for all NSHE employees. The repeal is effective immediately. This means NSHE new hires are no longer subject to providing proof of mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.

Although this vaccine requirement is no longer mandatory, the University is still encouraging all students, faculty and staff to become fully vaccinated if they have not already done so. Vaccination continues to be the best tool we have in preventing severe illness from COVID-19. The CDC emphasizes that COVID-19 boosters can further enhance or restore immunity that might have decreased over time. The CDC recommends that people should stay up to date with their COVID vaccines, which includes getting all recommended boosters when eligible.

You can find a local vaccine provider through Immunize Nevada or the CDC’s Vaccine Finder tool. COVID vaccinations and testing are also available at the Student Health Center.

If you have any additional questions about the repeal of the vaccine requirement, please contact employeevax@unr.edu.
