Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds II available for students

March 8, 2021

This message was sent to students at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Dear University of Nevada, Reno Undergraduate, Graduate and Medical Students,

We are pleased to announce that the University of Nevada, Reno has received $7.1 million from the federal government to assist students in need during the coronavirus pandemic. This second round of Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund money (HEERF II) was authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 (CRRSAA). In 2020, this funding was known as the CARES Act Funding.

The purpose of this message is to communicate who is eligible for these funds and how to apply.

Eligibility

Degree-seeking students enrolled for Spring 2021 who have submitted a FAFSA for the school year 2020-21 have already demonstrated eligibility for HEERF II Emergency Funds. If you do not have a 2020-21 FAFSA on file, submit one immediately.

Although guidance from the U.S. Department of Education indicates that students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), undocumented, or international student status are not eligible for HEERF II emergency aid funding, aid from other sources might be available to them. Please contact our office at FApj@unr.edu.

To apply:

To request HEERF II, eligible students should complete this form.

If a student submits a request for assistance and we do not have a FAFSA on file, the request will be held until the University receives a successfully completed FAFSA. The request for assistance will be considered according to the date of receipt of the form. Funds will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please visit the HEERF II FAQ page for additional information, and questions may be directed to Tim Wolfe in the Financial Aid Office at finaid@unr.edu.

Sincerely,

Student Financial Aid and Scholarships
