Some words of support from ASUN and GSA

November 6, 2020

This message was sent to students at the University of Nevada, Reno.

We decided to write an email to all of you to ensure that we, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN), are here for you. We have been spending a lot of time as a country the last few months, and even all of this year, divided into two different parties. We have faced hardships and figured out how to change our social norms due to a pandemic. Now is the time for us to come together as one unified entity with the common goal of supporting each other, succeeding in our studies, and overcoming obstacles that this year has posed. Whether it be due to the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic or the election, people have definitely been divided. It is now that we ask you to get involved with our community and with the university; to take care of yourself and those around you, to join or organize clubs, to support each, we as a University and student body should want the best for our colleagues and community. The need to foster this culture is more important now than ever before. This year has shown us that times are changing, thus we must change and adapt our ways to the new normal. We are confident that we can all make this happen as a unified team.

This being said, we are here to lend advocacy, support, and helping hands to you, especially during this time of continued uncertainties and possible frustrations. Our purpose is to promote the welfare and interests of all students of the University so they can succeed personally, academically and professionally. This means we work to ensure that you are getting what you need and desire from your academic career as a student. As the year comes to a close, we urge you to remember that we are here with open ears and hearts. If there is something you feel like you could benefit from as a student, you are likely not alone. We encourage you to reach out to us by email, attend our meetings and give public comments, or comment on our social media. We are ready to listen and make changes where we can to provide you with the best possible outcome - and are just a few clicks away.

We have lived through history in the making and must acknowledge this is no easy feat - be kind to yourself. While we forge on into the end of this semester and unprecedented year, take time for yourself outside of your studies, exercise mental health awareness, and maintain that positive Pack mentality that we, as a community and University, need now more than ever. Remember: The strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack!

Sincere regards,

Dominique Hall (ASUN President)
Will Carrasco (GSA President)
