Updated COVID-19 campus alert

This message was sent to the University of Nevada, Reno campus community.
Dear University of Nevada, Reno Community,
Within the past 24 hours, the University of Nevada, Reno has been informed that a member of the campus community has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19)—the first positive case since the official beginning of the Fall semester on August 24, 2020. To comply with Clery Act requirements, we are sending this additional notification to ensure that any new students/staff who may not have received the prior alert before the semester began are aware and informed.
The individual was last on campus on 8/24/20 and has not returned to campus since. The individual was confirmed as positive for COVID-19 on 8/26/20. The individual is recovering at home and is following protocols set by state health officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The University’s lead medical professional, Dr. Cheryl Hug-English, the director of the Student Health Center, is working with the Washoe County Health District to make any necessary contacts with individuals who may have been exposed.
We ask the University of Nevada, Reno community to continue following protocols for prevention, maintain social distancing, be aware of symptoms of COVID-19, and seek medical care when it is needed.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation in Nevada and throughout the country, and we will continue to share information specific to University of Nevada, Reno through official channels, including the University's coronavirus page (unr.edu/coronavirus). The site includes links to health resources, university operations, current announcements, and other important information as well as a current running list of all positive cases reported by University staff and students. This list can be found at the confirmed cases page and includes a form through which you can report a positive case for yourself or for someone else.
The University of Nevada, Reno will only communicate confirmed cases when other members of the university community may have been exposed. Unless there are unusual circumstances, such information will be posted solely on our confirmed cases page (unr.edu/coronavirus/cases). This information complies with Clery Act requirements.
