Who should apply?
Applicants must be available June 22-July 3, 2026.
The ideal applicants are those who:
- practice or have practiced collaborative, community-based research,
- are or have been involved in language reclamation, maintenance, and documentation,
- have attended and taken workshops or courses from previous CoLang/InField Institutes or other training venues supportive of Indigenous languages
Individuals working directly with language revitalization, such as Indigenous community language scholars, are especially encouraged to submit a workshop proposal.
About CoLang workshops
Workshops are designed to be practical, accessible, and community-centered. Below are key considerations for what CoLang workshops should include and how they should be structured:
- Provide hands-on language work experience
- Equip the learner with practical tools and skills they can take home and apply in their work
- Do not include homework assignments
- Consistent with the theme and goals of CoLang
- Prepared to meet the needs of participants from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience in language work
- Meet for 90 minutes per day for four days
- Class size may vary from roughly 15 to 35 participants
Proposal requirements
Proposals should be a maximum of 2 single-spaced pages, in size 11 or larger Times New Roman, and include:
- A working title
- A one-sentence description of topic
- A detailed description of proposed workshop content, including:
- A general lesson plan for each day
- Time allocated for each activity
- How your workshop will benefits its audience
- Required materials:
- For participants to being (e.g. notebook, laptop, etc.)
- For CoLang 2026 LOC to prepare (e.g. computer lab, construction paper, markers, etc.)
- A description of immediately useful skills the participants will obtain (o.e. objectives - what will they be able to do when they get home?)
- Your qualifications for offering this workshop (i.e. previous courses taught with similar content, previous InField/CoLang participation, Natives4Linguistics, AILDI, Community-Based Research, etc.)
Proposals should be submitted as a PDF attachment and sent to colang2026@unr.edu with the subject line "CoLang 2026 Workshop Proposal". Successful proposals will be selected by the CoLang 2026 LOC, in consultation with the CoLang Advisory Circle.
For one facilitator per successful workshop proposal, CoLang 2026 will cover travel expenses, lodging, and weekday on-campus meals during the week of the workshop. Instructors who are able to are encouraged to seek funds from their own institutions or grants in order for us to offer support to more instructors. Questions should be directed to colang2026@unr.edu.
