May 1, 2012 - The College of Education at the University of Nevada, Reno, in collaboration with the Washoe County School District, is pleased to announce the funding of the Northern Nevada English Learning Initiative (NNELI), a National Professional Development grant, fully funded by the Office of English Language Acquisition of the United States Department of Education. The program is expected to receive funding for five years, with a total grant award of $1,935,167.
The goal of NNELI is to improve instruction for English Learners (ELs) through targeted preparation of teachers in a program which leads to pre-service teacher ESL endorsement, along with graduate level courses in STEM and ESL for licensed, practicing classroom teachers who have already received ESL endorsement. Paraprofessionals, too, will receive specialized instruction designed especially for the Northern Nevada context.
NNELI offices are located in the Raggio Research for STEM Education, on the fourth floor of the William J. Raggio Building at the University of Nevada, Reno main campus.
