Interpersonal violence, or IPV, is the intentional use of force, power or threats against a person that results or could result in injury, death or emotional/psychological harm.
IPV includes experiencing intimate partner violence or domestic violence (physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse perpetrated by an intimate partner), child abuse (physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse), elder abuse, stalking or sexual assault, as well as being exposed to domestic violence as a child.
An estimated one in three women in the U.S. will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetimes.
