Musical Theatre Audition Requirements
Live audition submission
For the 2025-2026 audition season, on-campus auditions for the B.A., Musical Theatre degree will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, and Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. On-campus auditions allow applicants to interact with the University of Nevada, Reno musical theatre team. Audition day will include a dance combination, performing two songs and a monologue for the faculty, a group Q&A session for parents with our faculty and current musical theatre students. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. To register for one of our on-campus audition dates, please complete UNR's BA Musical Theatre On-Campus Audition Request Form.
Current University students wanting to transfer into the Musical Theatre program should audition in December so they can start the curriculum by the spring semester.
On-campus audition requirements
Auditions will take place in the Lombardi Rec Center Building. Please plan to bring a headshot and resume to your audition. An accompanist will be provided for your two vocal selections. Bring your sheet music in a 3-ring binder with appropriate ‘Start/Stop’ markings.
Songs
Students should prepare two contrasting pieces:
- One song should be a ballad and one song should be an uptempo
- Cuts should not exceed a total of 90 seconds (two 16-32 bar cuts totaling 90 seconds)
- One song should be written prior to 1970
- One song should be written after 1970 and contrast the style of the first
Monologue
- One 60-second contemporary monologue (typically written after 1950) from a published play or written by a professional writer. A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, but may not have been professionally published. Monologue may be from musicals, television shows or movies.
Dance

Students will be taught a dance combination. Please bring appropriate attire for dance, including jazz shoes and character heels.
Video audition submission
If you are unable to attend the “live auditions,” you can audition by video submission via Acceptd. The deadline for video submission auditions is March 1. Offers will be made to video submissions on a rolling admission basis. The University of Nevada, Reno follows the Acceptd Musical Theatre Common Pre-Screen regulations for their video audition submissions. Please note: this is not a pre-screen; this is a complete audition.
