Nevada's Lithium Loop
Nevada's "Lithium Loop" details the state's full, in-state process for EV battery materials, from mining to recycling. Discover how Nevada leads sustainable clean energy innovation.

Unlocking Nevada's lithium potential
The "Lithium Loop" refers to a system where every step in making and recycling lithium batteries - from mining and processing the raw materials to building the batteries and recycling them at the end of their life - happens right here in Nevada. The Silver Peak mine in Esmeralda County is currently the only mine in the U.S. extracting lithium, accounting for about 1.5% of the world’s supply. In the next few years, Lithium Americas and Ioneer will begin lithium extraction at the Thacker Pass and Rhyolite Ridge projects. From there, the lithium is processed by companies like American Battery Technology Company and used by battery manufacturers such as Dragonfly Energy and Lyten. At the end of the battery lifecycle, companies like Redwood Materials and Aquametals are recycling batteries, recovering valuable materials for new battery cells. The Lithium Loop also includes mining and processing of other EV battery materials.

Why Nevada?
As the hub of the Lithium Loop, Nevada is uniquely positioned to lead the charge for the U.S. EV battery economy. From rich lithium deposits to advanced battery manufacturing facilities and pioneering battery recycling operations, the state’s infrastructure supports every step of the lithium lifecycle. With Nevada’s commitment to foster the industry from a statewide level, these resources create an unparalleled opportunity to build a resilient, sustainable domestic supply chain for one of the world’s most critical materials. With these resources, Nevada is positioned not only to meet growing national demand, but to drive the future of clean energy, job creation and energy security for generations to come.
