Welcome to the 2027 Reno Jazz Festival
The Reno Jazz Festival is a three-day celebration at the University of Nevada, Reno that brings together world‑class jazz artists and rising student musicians in an immersive setting. Participants perform, learn and grow through expert-led performance reviews, clinics, daytime concerts and evening jam sessions. With an eye toward equity, community and artistic evolution, the Reno Jazz Festival fosters meaningful connections, artistic discovery and a deep love for jazz among students and audiences alike.

Nick Finzer + Manzanita Quintet

The University of Nevada, Reno Performing Arts Series, in collaboration with the Reno Jazz Festival, presents acclaimed trombonist and composer Nick Finzer. Recognized as one of the leading voices in contemporary jazz, Finzer is celebrated for his rich tone, inventive improvisation and forward-thinking compositions that push the boundaries of the genre. Through dynamic performances rooted in tradition and innovation, Finzer brings a fresh perspective to modern jazz, offering audiences an engaging and inspiring musical experience.

Walter Smith is an acclaimed saxophonist, composer, and educator originally from Houston, whose career includes performances and recordings with many of jazz’s leading artists and ensembles. A Blue Note recording artist with more than 100 recordings to his name, Smith has released acclaimed albums including return to casual, three of us are from Houston and Reuben is not, and TWIO Vol. 2. He currently serves as Chair of Woodwinds at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he mentors the next generation of musicians.
