What is the Nevada Unit?
Facts:
- One of 44 Units in 41 states
- Part of a nationwide program created by Federal law in 1935
- Unit scientists are USGS employees with UNR faculty appointments
Mission:
- Graduate student training & instruction
- Technical assistance to cooperating agencies
- Integrated studies of fish & wildlife at the ecosystem level
- Research directed at resource management problems
Cooperators:
- The Unit exists by cooperative agreement with:
- University of Nevada, Reno
- U.S. Geological Survey
- Nevada Department of Wildlife
- U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
- Wildlife Management Institute
Research Funding:
- Federal agency research funds go through USGS to UNR by the Research Work Order (RWO) funding mechanism
- NDOW provides base funding for Unit fisheries & wildlife projects. State funds come to the Unit through UNR processes
