Adetomiwa Emmanuel Adesokan, a graduate student in the Department of Economics in the College of Business, was recognized as a first-place winner in category A1 of the Graduate Student Association Poster Symposium, held on Oct. 28, 2025, at the University of Nevada, Reno. The A1 category includes doctoral students in liberal arts, social sciences, education, business, journalism and social work. The recognition highlights excellence in graduate-level research communication, poster design and scholarly contribution.
Adesokan presented as a doctoral student representing the Department of Economics within the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno.
"My research, titled 'Nexus Between Carbon Emissions and Economic Growth: A Comparative Analysis Between Nigeria and South Africa,' focuses on sustainability and environmental economics," Adesokan said. "This achievement reflects the support and scholarly environment provided by the University of Nevada, Reno Graduate School, the Graduate Student Association and the academic community that evaluated the competition."
A panel of judges selected winners for demonstration of strong research relevance, rigorous analysis, creativity in presentation and professional engagement with symposium attendees.
"This recognition affirms the significance of my research contributions in the areas of environmental and development economics," Adesokan said. "I'm honored to be acknowledged among outstanding doctoral researchers."
