A global effort toward a sustainable energy future moved forward at the 2023 Materials Challenges in Alternative & Renewable Energy (MCARE) conference, co-organized by Chemical & Materials Engineering Associate Professor Krista Carlson.

The event, August 21-24 in Bellevue, Washington, brought together 170 attendees from 16 countries to discuss materials and process-related challenges to a sustainable energy future. MCARE is an annual event organized by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers, occurring in alternating years between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

Carlson’s work on the MCARE conference led to her recent recognition as an ACerS Global Ambassador, a distinction given to those who demonstrate exceptional leadership and/or service that benefits ACerS, its members and the global ceramics and glass community. In addition to co-organizing the 2023 MCARE confrence, Carlson chairs the ACerS Energy Materials and Systems Division.
